Sadly, this was my first year spending New Year’s in a different country and well, it was amazing and now I know why there were so many tourists to the area and wonder why I have never done this sooner.
Unlike the U.S., Norway doesn’t really have a celebration where people or organizations shoot fireworks – except for New Year’s. This is the time of year when everyone – everyone – buys fireworks.
We were lucky enough to be at the SkyBar at the Radisson SAS Blu in downtown Oslo with a great view of the city. During the time leading up to the New Year there were random fireworks going off. But, as soon as the clock signaled the new year and new decade, the skies lit up. It was an impressive sight and probably the most amazing fireworks show I have ever experienced – even better than my dusk flight on July fourth.
I didn’t take any pictures but I found this one – not sure who the photo credit goes to but it was posted on Gizmodo (2008).
